Pegasus Laboratories dba PRN Pharmacal will transition from chicken-based protein flavoring in its prescription product, KBroVet®-CA1 (potassium bromide chewable tablets) to a new French vanilla flavor.
The FDA-approved change comes in response to concerns regarding increased allergies to protein-based flavorants, supply chain concerns, and recent microbial contaminations when protein-based flavorants are used in veterinary prescription products.
Acceptability testing demonstrated that the new French vanilla flavor is as readily accepted as previous flavors. Dogs currently taking KBroVet-CA1 are not expected to be impacted by the flavor change. The first French vanilla flavored KBroVet-CA1 will be seen in the market as early as April 2023. Pet owners with concerns should contact their veterinarians.
